Pet-friendly vacation rentals in Sarasota

Sarasota is dog-friendly — the city, most of its parks, and a meaningful share of vacation rentals welcome pets. The catch: Siesta Key's public beaches don't allow dogs, so where you stay matters if dog-on-beach time is the goal. Here's where to look, by zone.

Lido Key & St. Armands (best for dog-on-beach time)

If beach time with the dog is the priority, stay on Lido Key. Ted Sperling Park / Lido Key Dog Beach at the south end of the island is one of the few designated off-leash dog beaches in Southwest Florida — fenced, clean, and a real stretch of sand. St. Armands Circle, just inland from the dog beach, is walkable, dog-friendly at most outdoor restaurant patios, and the most upscale walkable district on the Suncoast.

For pet-friendly Lido Key vacation rentals, our service area covers the full island. We also manage on St. Armands itself.

  • Ted Sperling Park / Lido Key Dog Beach — off-leash, fenced
  • St. Armands Circle — most outdoor patios are dog-friendly
  • Walkable to Lido Beach itself (on-leash, dogs allowed at the public beach park, not the beach sand)
  • Mid-to-upscale rental inventory

Downtown Sarasota / Laurel Park / Gillespie Park (best for walkability)

If the dog walks rather than the dog beach is the priority, Downtown Sarasota and the historic neighborhoods just south (Laurel Park) and east (Gillespie Park) are the move. Bayfront Park along Sarasota Bay, the Bayou Walk, and most downtown sidewalks are dog-friendly. Plenty of dog-friendly outdoor dining on Main Street and Pineapple Avenue.

This is also the most affordable pet-friendly zone if you don't need beach access every day.

  • Bayfront Park & Bayou Walk — dog walks along Sarasota Bay
  • Most Main Street outdoor restaurant patios are dog-friendly
  • Walkable to Whole Foods and downtown groceries
  • Lowest-priced pet-friendly inventory

Siesta Key (with caveats)

Siesta Key vacation rentals — many of them — accept pets in the home. But the public beaches on Siesta Key (including Siesta Beach itself, Crescent Beach, and Turtle Beach) do not allow dogs. If you stay on Siesta Key with a dog, plan to drive to Lido Key Dog Beach (about 20 minutes north) or Brohard Paw Park in Venice (about 30 minutes south) for off-leash beach time.

Who it's best for: travelers who want a Siesta Key vacation but happen to bring a dog — not travelers whose primary goal is dog-on-beach time.

  • Many rentals allow pets at the property
  • No dogs on the public Siesta Key beaches
  • Drive to Lido Key Dog Beach (20 min) or Brohard Paw Park (30 min)
  • Tropical Breeze Resort area has some pet-friendly walking trails

What to check before you book a pet-friendly rental

Pet policies vary widely by property. Before booking, confirm: whether the listing accepts dogs (cats are sometimes excluded), the maximum number of pets, weight limits, breed restrictions, and the pet fee. Most pet-friendly rentals in Sarasota charge a pet fee in the $75–$200 range per stay, typically billed at booking. A handful charge per night.

Also confirm the surrounding property — fenced yards, hard floors instead of carpet, and proximity to a dog-friendly park or beach all matter once you're actually there.
